Technical Trainer

Location: Edinburgh, UK

Illuminate are looking for an enthusiastic Technical Trainer on a fixed term basis for a period of 6 months to educate internal and external customers in our Products and Applications.

If successful you will develop technical training programs to help our sales force, channel partners and field personnel increase their knowledge in our solutions. Allowing them to show confidence when dealing with customers and operators.

Technical trainers must be extremely knowledgeable in their field of expertise and possess solid technical aptitude. Additionally, we expect you to be an excellent communicator, able to explain complex subjects in a clear and interesting way.

Illuminate Technologies provides innovative solutions for public safety, cyber threat detection and legal compliance for critical network infrastructure. Our solutions address network cyber security requirements in 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G mobile infrastructures, virtualized network infrastructures and carrier IP networks.

You must have the unrestricted right to live and work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to support visa applications or extensions at this point.

Responsibilities:

  • Devising technical training programs according to organizational requirements
    • Producing training schedules and course agendas
    • Determining course content according to objectives
    • Working with Learning Products Personnel to prepare training materials
  • Execute Training Courses to Sales Channels Partners, Field Teams and Support Personnel
    • Arrange for and conduct customer training when needed
    • Keep and Report data on completed courses, absences, issues etc.
  • Determine overall effectiveness of programs and make improvements
    • Audit and improve current offerings
    • Gather feedback and evaluate results of training programmes
    • Create and manage improvement backlog in conjunction with Learning Products Personnel
    • Help define current and future strategy of training as a function

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as technical trainer
  • Knowledge of modern training techniques and tools in technical subjects
    • Working knowledge in MS Office (especially PowerPoint)
    • Experience delivering training Remotely or on-site, as required
    • Experience in designing technical course content
    • Ability to address training needs with complete courses
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
    • Interact with respective departments to facilitate training programs
    • Interact with technical experts to design course content
  • Comfortable speaking to crowds/ audiences of any skill level
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
  • Degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent relevant experience
  • Certification such as CTT+ (Certified Technical Trainer) is a strong asset

Linux Systems Administrator

Location: Herndon, VA, USA

We are seeking a talented and energetic Linux Systems Administrator who will interface with customers on a regular basis and provide technical leadership for key company projects. Key areas of support include conducting site surveys; system planning, installation and commissioning; system support and troubleshooting; on-site system consulting, telephone support, testing, documentation and in some cases providing technical support for pre-sales efforts for Illuminate GSM, UMTS and LTE network monitoring systems. The successful candidate is expected to work well on his/her own and within the broader Illuminate organization.

The successful candidate will work at the customer’s site in Northern VA, remotely (at home office) and/or the Herndon, VA office

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in customer-facing meetings to review operational status of deployed systems
  • Install, configure and maintain reliable operation of systems. Install and upgrade server components and software, manage virtual servers and integrate automation processes
  • Oversee performance of systems and troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing resolutions, and assessing associated risks
  • Support system installation activities; e.g., breaking out packages and installing equipment; creating installation drawings and/or instructions, managing cables (e.g., fiber, coaxial and twisted pair); installing initial OS and application software; developing as-built documents; configuring initial system and checking equipment for proper operation. Locations for equipment installation are international and often require travelling on a quarterly basis – two to six weeks in duration
  • Provide local and/or remote support for network planning, lab testing, lab support, troubleshooting and system administration support for systems deployed in the field or in customer lab facilities
  • Provide multi-level on-site customer training for conducting site surveys, planning and installing system functionality and system operation
  • Support sales personnel in pre-sales activities for new business opportunities
  • Occasionally provide 24/7 support

Required Qualifications:

  • Active or current TS/SCI w/Poly (U.S. citizenship required)
  • Ability to obtain a medical clearance
  • Currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics or related field. College degree, in some cases, can be substituted by work experience
  • At least four (4) years of relevant work experience in a systems administration role with two (2) years of specialized, relevant technical work experience. Work experience, in some cases can be substituted by college degree
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and solving problems in complex communications systems. Ability to identify and analyze functional and operational requirements, and develop solutions to satisfy emerging needs
  • Experience with hands-on rack-and-stack installation, commissioning and maintenance of servers and systems; and, creating install guides and as-built documentation
  • Experience working directly with development team to resolve software and hardware problems; and, applying software and hardware patches
  • Linux / Unix system and network administration experience
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, NAT, routing and switching
  • Experience with firewall and vpn configuration
  • Understanding of telemetry; reading/verifying/improving documentation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift objects up to 50 lbs without assistance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding and/or experience in GSM, UMTS, and LTE mobile core network architectures and related hardware, software and protocols
  • Working experience with Telco infrastructure: NSS (i.e., MSC, HLR, AUC, VLR, EIR), BSS (BTS, BSC, Common Air Interfaces), OSS (i.e., Inventory Systems, Customer Care/Billing Systems and gateways to transport information), SMSC, SGSN, GGSN and other ancillary components
  • Knowledge of the theory and principles of telecommunications (i.e., SS7, telco subsystems design/architecture/implementation/configuration)
  • Experience with Wireshark and analyzing logs, stack traces, debug libraries, software/hardware
  • Experience with scripting languages and programming; Python, Perl, Shell, VI, C, C++
  • Networking and security certifications

  • Quickly and accurately build cost and pricing models in support of proposal generation and financial vetting for P&L considerations
  • Respond to customer RFPs of varying degrees of complexity and response structure under tight deadlines
  • Travel is anticipated to be occasional

Required Qualifications:

Telecom Solutions Engineer shall possess the following qualifications:

  • Possess a working knowledge/understanding of mobile networking infrastructure (network not RF) including networking elements, technology type, system element interconnects, traffic types carried and load estimations for 2G, 2.5G, 3G and 4G networks
  • Working knowledge/ understanding of various packet capture, processing and monitoring technologies
  • Have 3 to 5 years of professional proposal and technical writing experience with documented examples of previous work demonstrating mastery of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint coupled with solid understanding of financial modeling
  • Must have good customer facing skills with the ability to support the US sales and technical teams at customer facing meetings as appropriate
  • Applicable four-year professional degree or equivalent direct experience in 3G/4G
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Proposal Management Certification from industry recognized certification groups (for example APMP Certification, OST Global Solutions Certification – CPW or CPM, Shipley Associates Certification, etc.)
